Tri-State Shiba Inu Rescue
Looking back at 2009

It seems that retrospectives like this often begin with something like, "Well, this was a year of firsts!" In our case, however, it is the simple truth, because this was the first year of Tri-State Shiba Inu Rescue, Inc.’s existence as an actual, separate, nonprofit entity.  Tri-State Shiba grew out of the many, long years our founder, Pam, has spent rescuing Shibas and other assorted pups, largely on her own.  [We can say that because Pam’s not writing this ]  Tri-State Shiba was formed as a result of her years of work and vision.  Thanks, Pam.

So our first "first" is - in January 2009, Tri-State Shiba Inu Rescue, Inc. was formed and became an actual Ohio Non-Profit corporation with officers and by-laws and all the trimmings.

We got our own website and logo.

We obtained our official federal 501(c)3 Public Charity Status, making any donations you give us tax deductible.  Thanks to all of you who have already supported us in this way.

We got our first outside volunteers who transported, bathed, groomed, socialized, and photographed our rescue dogs.  When possible, they also worked on basic commands and leash training. [Thank you Brandi, we think you were the first.  And thanks to all the rest who’s help we so appreciate.]

Finally, we obtained our first actual grant from the Pedigree Foundation.

While all these "firsts" were occurring, the most important events in a rescue's life also took place.  That is, during 2009 we took in 34 dogs, saving them from likely grim fates.  We made sure they got their shots, were spayed or neutered, had heartworm tests and preventative, and took care of any other medical needs, like bad teeth or bad skin, they may have had. We placed 32 dogs in what we hope are their forever homes.  Our thanks go out to all those who provided those warm and loving homes. And you can be sure we will do our best to find the same quality homes for those that are still staying with us.

Finally, if you find yourself rather weary or worn from the holidays, take a moment to look at the faces in the slideshow.  These are some of the pups that found forever homes during 2009.  We think it will lift your mood.  It does ours.

Our best to you and yours in the coming New Year!
